So a couple of weeks ago before I knew that Ryan and I were having a baby boy Joann's had some fleece on sale, so I decided to try and make a Ric-Rac receiving blanket with the 2 yards of fleece I bought.
This is what turned out:
 |
Ric-Rac receiving blanket that I made Thursday night. This was also the first time I appliqued anything.. which I think was an okay job. |
 |
Up close of the appliqued alligator. I did one to practice on some spare cloth that Ryan thinks is better than this one. I think it's because on this one I made his spines bigger, but the tail looks shrimpy now. |
 |
Ric-Rac is right in the seam, then you sew around the edge again to hide the turn hole and to give it extra stability. The only trouble I had was making sure the ric-rac was the same distance from the edge each time (it was a pain). |
 |
I put an "X" in the middle so that it doesn't poof out at you and slide around against the two layers. |
Overall, I don't think I'll make another ric-rac receiving blanket because I don't think the ric-rac is a very soft edge for when the blanket is cuddling up next to you, but it does give it a nice edge. If you want the instructions on how to make it, they are found
here.
So I still had a tiny bit of fleece left over, so I decided to make a matching cute burp cloth this morning. Tutorial found
here. I think it turned out really cute, and you can still use the cloth diaper for a diaper if you wish, this just gives it extra absorbancy on one side.
 |
Aren't they cute? and functional! Ryan thinks I'm obsessed, but I just really like learning and doing new things. These projects were quick and simple-ish and I got to learn lots of new things, while making something useful. |
 |
Just a close up of how I sewed it on. The tutorial says to use a zig-zag stitch, but Meredith has one that just used a simple line stitch, and I thought it would look better for this "design" since I had to piece the fleece together to make it wide enough. |

Yay! |
That was a fun end of the week project. I think I've decided on my next crocheting project too... If you like Mario brothers or Pokemon you should check out
this blog. I'm going to make some Luma's. :)
