He's on the MOVE!

So today Ryan and I were trying to get a good video of Matthew's "flailing forward frog scoot", and we got a couple that were okay.  Then tonight we decided to try one more time, and he started crawling

We have a mobile baby!, who I'm sure will be following me everywhere in the house next week while Ryan's gone.   Ryan's just happy that Matthew started crawling before he left because otherwise he was pretty sure he would miss it.

The crawl.
It was his first crawl, and we actually got it on tape!

Sunday Outfit

So Matthew only had the one Sunday shirt to wear, so while we were in Layton getting my wedding ring checked for the warranty, we went to Once Upon a Child.  They were having a sale of 50% off everything, and some clothes for 1$, so we bought him this white shirt to wear on Sundays, along with a couple of sleepers because he was growing out of all his other ones (and I still want his feet covered at night).

So here he is right after church (which he's decided to love and be an angel in ever since NJ).  The tie he is wearing was Ryan's first tie, which he wore until he was 7years old or so.

Cutie Patootie.

Other Pictures and Videos

These are just some other pictures and videos from the past 2 weeks or so.

Playing with his plate before dinner..

Getting up on his knees.  This is from a week or more ago, so he's much better at it now, although he still mostly goes backwards!

Still turning in circles.

Matthew the block-head. Courtesy of Daddy.

'Scream' Talking.  He was like this for 5 or so minutes during Sunday School because he was so excited.  We couldn't figure out how to distract him to make him stop.. oops.

More jumper fun and playing.

Bike Ride

So last Saturday the weather was gorgeous!  High of 55 degrees and sunny, so Ryan and I really wanted to go for a bicycle ride.  We've been looking for a trailer for Matthew to sit in because we want to ride more as the weather gets warmer, but couldn't find a nice one for less than 400$!  So, we asked when Kid to Kid gets them, and they said they get more as it gets warmer outside, but that didn't help us out last Saturday.  Anyways, we decided that we still wanted to go, so we thought Matthew could ride on Ryan's back in the baby wrap I made.  It actually worked out really well, and Matthew absolutely loved riding on Ryan's back.  He stayed pretty warm, although the wind was cold and made his eyes tear up some.

Here we are testing out the baby wrap inside before we go on our trip.  Matthew loves being up high facing forward!  Everytime we started to put him on our backs, before we even stood up he started giggling, talking, and smiling.  Unfortunately, he thinks my hair is a toy to play with (and pull! ouch!) when he's on my back, so I need to figure out a way to hide my hair from his super strong grip.

Just starting on our ride, which was 10 miles~!  I was dying by the end and Ryan's going "I need to go again because I didn't get a work out at all."

Matthew even got in a short nap on the way back.  Oh and the little socks are 'mitten's for his hands, which he didn't really need because they stayed warm on Ryan's neck right behind his head.

Ryan said Matthew was pretty easy to wear, except that his back and shoulders started hurting towards the end.  Oh, and I made that hat for Matthew while we were in Washington for Ryan's job hunting.  I think it's pretty cute, and I didn't even follow a pattern.

Coconut Macaroons

So back when I made the heart cookies, I was planning on making these for Valentine's Day.  However, I wasn't feeling well on Valentine's Day because Matthew didn't sleep well and I've been fighting off Ryan and Matthew's cold, so I didn't get around to making the coconut macaroons until Friday.  They still were yummy though!

Drinking Water

So later on the prunes night, Ryan was holding Matthew and trying to drink some strawberry milk.  Matthew really wanted it, so we decided he could have a little water in a cup for the experience.  He thought it was interesting, and I think really just wanted to chew on the side of the cup/Ryan's thumb.

"What's in here Daddy? Are you really going to let me have it?"

"Mmm.. yummy cup."

"Mmm.. yummy thumb."

"I'm not sure I like this cold water thing after all."

Matthew 'eats' lots of Prunes

So the other night I was getting Matthew's bath water ready and his room ready for bed (refilling the humidifier and making sure his blankets were in his room), and I come back to the kitchen.  I was standing on the other side of the high chair, when Ryan said, "He ate most of his prunes tonight".  Hmm, I'm not sure if 'eat' was the correct word, but he at least enjoyed them..

Cat Napping

Matthew and Ryan have both had terrible colds recently, and one day Matthew was having especially a hard time sleeping, so he ended up falling asleep for a 3rd nap on the way to Walmart.  We both thought he would wake up pretty quickly, so I carried him in my arms into the store, but then he started to get especially heavy and was still sleeping, so we made a 'bed' for him in the cart to nap.  He ended up napping the whole time we were in the store, and we wandered around the store looking at random things so that he could get as much sleep as possible.  Poor little kid, thank goodness he's doing better now.

Growing a Matthew

Since it has been feeling like spring, we went to the garden store one Saturday.  They had these HUGE pots, which we promptly put Matthew in to see if he would grow faster.  He didn't of course, but he did enjoy it and looked so cute.

Shoo-Fly Pie

So I made some Shoo-fly Pie a while ago now, but never posted about it.  It turned out okay (the crust was delicious), but it had an aftertaste of molasses that made it a little bitter after each bite.  It looked good though!

Valentine's Day

One last post to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!

Ryan and I celebrated by me sitting on the couch watching Pride and Prejudice, Ryan trying to root his phone, and Matthew playing on the floor (we're exciting).  Honestly, I don't know if "celebrate" is the right word because we probably would've done the same thing any other day.  But at least we knew it was Valentine's Day and thought about appreciating each other all day, right?

Anyways, I did make the cookies yesterday (which were delicious) for a Valentine's Day treat (although they didn't make it to Valentine's Day).  They reminded me of a cross between sugar cookies and shortbread, with our homemade apricot jam on top.  Yummy!

Other Matthew Pictures and Videos

And some other pictures and videos for your enjoyment..

Sweet, happy boy playing while mommy eats breakfast.
Giggling before bedtime.

Turning in a circle.  He can do it faster than this if he really wants to turn, but he normally just works his way around playing with toys in a circle.  Usually he starts playing sitting up, then leans over, then decides tummy is the way to play.  This is at the end of his 'tummy playing', so he's getting frustrated and is getting hungry, I think.

Matthew Trying New Foods

These are just a bunch of videos and pictures of the new foods that Matthew has tasted.  Don't worry we gave them to him, one at a time and 3-4 days apart, but his faces are just priceless.

Yummy prunes...!  Don't let his smile fool you, he definitely doesn't like them yet.  We gave him the same container of prunes for 3 days, along with oatmeal because he wouldn't eat just prunes!

Daddy's are definitely more fun..

Matthew Jumping

So a few weeks ago, all Matthew wanted to do was stand.. ALL day long or he would just cry because playing while sitting up just wasn't "fun" anymore!  (Or at least that's what it felt like)

So we bought Matthew a jumper off of ksl for 20$, and voila! he wouldn't jump in it...  He would try to walk in it because he was in a walker in NJ, but it took him a week to figure out that he could jump in it.  Every once in a while we'd go and bounce the bottom of his feet, so he would bounce up and down, which he absolutely loved, so it was a little frustrating until he learned to jump, but it's all worth it now!

Anyways here are pictures and videos of him jumping.  This is the first time he actually decided/learned to jump in it, so he was estatic!

ps.  I can't believe how chubby he looks in pictures and videos because I don't really think of him that chubby in person, even though he is! No wonder my back hurts at the end of the day if he's clingy and wants to be carried all the time while I do things one handed.
