Remember last post when I said that Matthew only knows how to stand up using his Hippo?? Yeah, the next day he was standing up using the couch, our bed, the window sills, the baseboard heaters, pretty much everything. He has recently added the bookcase to his repetoire of things to use to stand up, but luckily it is the side of the bookcase and not the front, so it is a little more stable.
Anways, he is definitely a little busy-body and loves to crawl around the house following me, exploring on his own, and finding new noises by banging his toys on everything. Here are some videos from when he first started crawling, playing, and in general doing the things he loves to do during the day!
Okay, so the Hippo isn't necessarily 'hungry', but Matthew still feeds it! We bought this Hippo from DI for Christmas for him because I knew that he would like it in a few months, and now he loves it! The past few days he has been climbing on it, banging toys against it, walking with it, and learning to stand up using it.
Anyways, here are a few videos of Matthew playing with his hippo. It has been one of his favorite toys the past few days because it is the perfect height for him to start standing up with. He did stand up from the floor to the couch yesterday, but he didn't repeat himself. Luckily for me he's only stood up since using the Hippo, which I place in the middle of the room so he doesn't fall and hit anything but the floor.
Mmm, yes. The naked boy. Can you guess who is responsible for that??
Matthew walking!
He's been doing this for the past few days, and has started to stand up all the way using the hippo. However, he hasn't quite been able to get around to the 'back' of the hippo to walk all by himself after he stands up. He only get to the side of the yellow part before he falls/lets go, so we stand him up and let him play.
So when Ryan was little he was obsessed with anything that had an engine. Obviously that obsession has continued for him, although it is a little more refined, as he has preferences on what engines and things with motors are the most fun.
I'm pretty sure Matthew has inherited this gene because one of his favorite activities is to stare out the window and talk to the cars as they drive by. He especially loves the garbage truck, the school buses, and trucks with loud engines.
Matthew also likes the vacuum cleaner - when it's running. (Isn't he a weird kid?) When I vacuum I have to be as efficient and fast as possible because all Matthew wants to do now is crawl after it and touch it. He especially is fascinated with the cord, and any other cord in general. The amazing part is he uses both hands to slowly 'walk' along the cord to find the plugs at the end.. and he always finds the plug!
Anyways, here are a few videos of Matthew talking to the cars, as well as one where he starts walking along the window sill. He's been getting better and better at walking while holding on to things.. especially since he learned to crawl and control his leg movements more. Shouldn't he be happy with crawling for more than a week!?! And not learn to walk for a 6 more months!?? I don't know if I can deal with a walking baby, but a crawling one has been really nice so far...
ps. Sorry about the bad lighting/camera angles. I was trying to be close enough in case he started to fall, and it was morning, so the light was really bright outside, although the sun wasn't up above the mountains yet.
So here is another video of Matthew crawling. He is definitely able to get around now! He loves to crawl from room to room, and can be quick when he wants to get somewhere before or after you. When he wants to be picked up he crawls over and plays with your toes, then head butts your leg to get your attention. Unfortunately, he still doesn't have complete control or knowledge of what he's doing so he's been bonking his head on things. :'(
We also tried feeding him zuchini when we made home made pizza, but he wasn't interested in the pureed stuff, just knawing on the actual zuchini. He's such a silly boy sometimes!
Mmm yes, this helps my hurting gums. (He has still to get any teeth poking through! But they definitely hurt him on and off!)
He is getting a rash below his lower lip because of drool and licking it, but he sure looks cute.
