Ryan's Family Visits / Jeep Adventures

So for the past week Ryan's parents and his youngest brother have been popping in and out of our house for visits. They initially came to come to Education week at BYU, but decided that spending time with their kids was more important. So this past week, we've seen them a lot and they've been busy cleaning the condo they own and rent in Provo, which Ryan's brother, Spencer, lives in. Anyways, when they got here they spent the first night here, and they also brought a Jeep Cherokee for Ryan and I to have. It was a Jeep that they got for free as well, thinking they could give it to Jenelle, but it smelt so bad (I concur) that she wouldn't have it, even if it barely ran. So, instead we get it. It's kinda nice because it can be a second vehicle for us to have in emergencies, or to take camping, or whatever in the mountains because it really smells.. or at least now it only smells.

So here is the short story of the Jeep. Ryan's dad had a friend who had a daughter, (follow all that), who drove this Jeep into the ground. It stopped working and the friend thought that the Jeep wouldn't be fixable. Ryan's dad and other brother went over there and got it "running" to bring it home in washington. It was missing a cylinder firing and so was running really poorly, as well as leaking oil and the smell... Apparently, this daughter was a 'rough and tumble, sort of gal', so she'd take it camping somewhere up in the Washington mountains with a couple of her pet dogs and just sleep in the Jeep with them for a while. After looking at the Jeep you would believe it, considering the driver's side door wouldn't shut properly, the front trim and one of the side lights were missing, the emergency brake was broken and the electrics were a mess. However, before Ryan's dad gets the Jeep, she drives it home from one of these escapades, and leaves it parked in the yard with the back window latch open (it couldn't shut because it was broken). Her family gives up on it, and it becomes the dogs favorite house to sleep in, live in, and play in. This goes on for about 6 months before Ryan's dad says he'll haul it off his land.

But anyways, Ryan's dad figured out how to get the final cylinder firing again, so now it runs, and we decide, sure we'll take a free Jeep. Now Ryan's been working on it, and has cleaned it to the best of his ability. He's used 'resolve', 'kids and pets', 'carpet cleaner', 'rug doctor', vaccum, and broom, bleach, etc etc... and now instead of smelling like moldy wet dog, now it smells like dog and a new car freshener... which don't mix to make a new dog. It's a pretty revolting smell, and whenever I sit in it, all I can smell is dog and all I can think is germs seeping through the seats into my clothes. (Btw, I can smell the "Jeep smell" on Ryan's clothes when he comes inside after working or riding in it) Right now I'm trying to think of something that is stronger than a wet dog smell, that wouldn't be so revoluting. Dirty baby diapers might be better right?? Or rotting produce?? Maybe a really strong mint or cilantro??

Anyways, here are a few pictures. A few from when it first got here and then pictures I took on my first Jeep ride around Bountiful. There aren't really any pictures of the inside though, sorry.Looks nice from the outside...

Ahh the Bountiful B.. this hike is easy. Maybe 20 feet?Jeep coming down the hill.. we're "on top of the B".. as we were sitting here smoke started coming out of the hood on the driver's side, i told Ryan and he said not to worry about it, it's just the rats nests and leaking oil burning under the hood by the engine..Here's a far away view of where we mounted the "B" as you can see lots of people come to dirt bike, shoot, and 4-wheel up at this local hot spotHere's a closer view of the Bountiful temple from the top of the "B" hill.
